Este disco es un iniciativa más que interesante. Goethe ha sido un poeta con grandes conexiones con el mundo musical de su época  y posteriores. Por eso en el disco hay autores del siglo XIX y también contemporáneos.
Encontramos música de grandes adoradores de la poesía de Goethe como Beethoven o Schubert aunque no pudieran contar con su especial placet. Los gustos musicales de Goethe no eran muy sofisticados ni muy dados a lo entonces más moderno. El arrebato romántico de los autores citados no eran muy de su agrado, aunque pudo en ocasiones reconocer su valía. Con Beethoven tuvo relación (Ver entrada Música y poesía, un balneario en Teplice) y con Schubert llegó a estar incluso grosero al no responder a los envíos del pobre vienés ofreciéndole sus lieder. Encontramos en el disco a su músico favorito, el que según él, mejor musicaba su poesía, es decir:  Carl Friedrich Zelter. El discípulo de éste Féliz Mendelssohn también está representado (y su hermana Fanny), Mendelssohn tuvo relación de amistad con Goethe. Una bella amistad entre un jovencísimo músico y un anciano poeta.
Otros grandes como Schumann y Brahms también aparecen en el disco. Autores menos conocidos y más modernos aportan sus bellas contribuciones haciendo entre todos un disco de gran interés y belleza. Algunas de la obras son lieder arreglados para coro, pero la mayoría son piezas corales originales.

Aporta libreto con las letras y comentario en alemán, francés e inglés. las interpretaciones son muy buenas y el sonido excelente
